When I’m hungry (which is often), I update this blog:

As managing editor at White Rock Lake Weekly, I covered community news and events:

While at The Dallas Morning News, I primarily covered breaking news and community feature stories:

  • North Texas dogs facing euthanasia are given a second chance
  • Volunteers team up to beautify local public schools for Earth Day
  • A. Maceo Smith High School wins Frito Lay’s “Score for Your School” contest
  • New housing offers safety and community to South Dallas
  • Former roommate of man charged for murder recalls the plans to carry out the crime
  • Local elementary school receives praise for its incorporation of the ‘Healthy Zone’ program
  • Forest Hill Mayor and Councilman duke it out
  • Baby born outside of Arlington strip club
  • Marion Barber donates $500,000 worth of computers to DISD
  • I contributed to the reporting of the fatal double-shooting at Burger Street
  • Fires devastate an apartment complex during freezing Dallas weather

This spring, I took a technology reporting class. One of our assignments was to interview a journalist about how technology has affected their reporting:

The majority of my work has been for The Daily Campus. The following articles are from the fall 2009 and fall 2010 semesters:

  • A girl is the victim of an off-campus sexual assault.
  • A lesson not to jaywalk or to send text messages while driving.
  • SMU’s Intrafraternity Council hosts its 12th annual Special Olympics volleyball tournament in the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports.
  • Students had the opportunity to contribute to the National Bone Marrow Donor Program at SMU’s homecoming tailgate.
  • October was National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Read what local Dallas businesses did to support breast cancer research.
  • Author Robyn O’Brien shares the scary secrets behind our nation’s food industry in her book, “The Unhealthy Truth.”
  • Nothing can ruin my Christmas spirit faster than celebrating it too early.
  • Texting while driving has proven to be just as dangerous, if not more, than driving while intoxicated.

I updated The Daily Campus’ police blotter with campus crime.

  • Read about a student who set off a dorm fire alarm by microwaving a towel.
  • See the end of semester total crime count.

Last semester, I was enrolled in a magazine writing class. I wrote four stories, two of which were published.

  • George Rubio runs his own snowball business. He makes all of the ingredients from scratch.
  • Cindy Brinker Simmons, the founder of Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer, shares her life of loss and faith.

I also worked for a semester as a copy editor for SMU’s online publication, the SMU Daily Mustang. During that time, I wrote one or two event stories and several features.

  • After Tiger Woods cheated on his wife, I was compelled to find out what drives people to cheat on their significant others.
  • SMU students learned how to make sushi at a Multicultural Greek Council event last April.
  • The poor state of the economy has also taken its toll on family pets.
  • The Dallas Mavs ManiAACs are the original male dance squad of the NBA.
